Dr. Bena Kallick is an internationally recognized author, award-winning educational consultant, and co-found of The Institute for Habits of Mind. Armed with a deep understanding of the structures of the mind and learning, Dr. Kallick has devoted her career to improving education through self-directed learning in which students develop a greater consciousness of their own thought processes. Through the development of Habits of the Mind, Bena effectively encourages learners to strategically engage critical and creative thinking. She is a pioneer at the forefront of education, pushing teachers and leaders to prioritize thought-filled opportunities and inclusive learning communities for the voice, agency, and global problem solving of our learners everywhere. Her area of focus includes group dynamics, creative and critical thinking, and alternative assessment strategies in the classroom. Dr. Kallick has taught at Yale University School of Organization and Management, University of Massachusetts Center for Creative and Critical Thinking, and Union Graduate School, and has served on the board of Jobs for the Future.
